Three ICEP Members Honored with College’s Annual Awards

Dr. Nazir, of Orland Park, is the recipient of the Bill B. Smiley Meritorious Service Award, which honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine in Illinois. The Bill B. Smiley award is ICEP’s highest honor.
Dr. Nazir is a Past President of ICEP. He served on the Board of Directors for 6 years and as a Councilor for the College for 10 years. He is also a past Chair of ICEP’s Education Committee.
Dr. Nazir is the president of emergency services for the MEA Division of TeamHealth. He is responsible for all aspects of the Division’s business, including financial solvency, physician relations, revenue generation, marketing, corporate development, and shareholder and client relations. As an emergency physician for more than 25 years, Dr. Nazir served as the Medical Director of Ingalls Emergency Services for 14 years and continues to serve as Chairman of the Department, a position he has held for the past 13 years. Dr. Nazir received his training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and has also maintained an academic position there since 1990.
ICEP Meritorious Service Award
Dr. Glushak, of Chicago, is the recipient of the ICEP Meritorious Service Award, honoring his significant contributions to the advancement of emergency medicine by exemplary service.
Dr. Glushak recently came to the College’s aid when he stepped into the position of co-chair of the Patient & Physician Adovcacy Committee, of which he has been an active longtime member. He is a past president of ICEP and served on the Board of Directors for two terms and as a Councillor for many years.
Dr. Glushak is medical director for AXA Assistance USA and a professor of medicine, section of emergency medicine, at the University of Chicago Deprtment of Medicine. He is also the Medical Director for the Chicago South EMS system. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Illinois.
Downstate Member Service Award
Dr. Barker, of Peoria, is the recipient of the Downstate Member Service Award, which recognizes a physician who lives outside of the Chicago metropolitan area but continues to remain active in the organization despite having to travel great distances for most ICEP activities.
Dr. Barker is a longtime member of the Education Committee, actively helping to plan ICEP’s many educational programs. She served as a course director and faculty for the Downstate Emergency Medicine Conference for several years. She also travels faithfully to serve as faculty for ICEP’s Oral Board Review Courses twice a year.
Dr. Barker is an attending physician in the department of emergency medicine at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, and also serves as Core Faculty and Director of Simulation Education for the EM residency program. She is the Research Site Director for JTSEC Corridor of Innovation, the simulation and conference education center being developed on the OSF St. Francis campus. Dr. Barker completed her residency in emergency medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she was chief resident.
