Legislative Update – Week of May 1
The beginning of May marks just 30 days until the tentative end of the legislative session. During the next several weeks the negotiations on the budget will become more intense and likely, more rancorous. Reaction to the Goveor’s proposed budget was not particularly positive and, reaction to his recent plan to reallocate dollars from local govements elsewhere unless a borrowing plan is approved, appears to be roundly, negative.
Substantive legislation continues to move through the process, now in the opposite chamber. Senate Bills have 2 weeks in which to move out of House committees and an additional 2 weeks to be voted on by the full chamber. The same schedule applies to House Bills that are currently in the Senate.
