Legislative Update – Week of February 14
The House and Senate retu on Tuesday this week. Committee hearings are now in full swing and many bills have been posted for hearing in both chambers.
The Senate deadline for introduction of substantive bills passed this last week. A total of 2300+ bills were introduced in the Senate. To date, more than 1500+ bills have been introduced in the House, with several more days for introductions left until their February 24th deadline.
The Goveor’s Budget address will be on this coming Wednesday, February 16 at noon. The State’s budget woes continue and the Goveor’s budget is expected to reflect cuts throughout. Additionally, it has been suggested that there may be some action related to some Gubeatorial appointments in the coming week. The Senate unanimously passed a measure on Thursday of last week that will strictly limit the time an individual can continue to serve in a position that requires the advice and consent of the Senate past the expiration of their term.
