Legislative Update – Week of February 7
Like much of the rest of Illinois, the House and Senate had to cancel their scheduled session days in Springfield last week due to the snow emergency. Again, bills were introduced without the members being present during perfunctory session days. Members are scheduled to retu to Springfield February 8th at noon. Although relatively few, committee hearings have been scheduled and some bills have been posted for hearing in the coming week.
The deadlines for introduction of substantive bills are currently set for February 10th in the Senate and February 24th in the House. At his point there have only been 150 Senate Bills introduced. The Senate will likely extend their deadline, at least an additional week to make up for the lost time last week. Bills will begin to be heard in committees upon retu of the members. Session days are scheduled each remaining week during the month of February.
