Weekly Legislative Update – Week of January 14
The House and Senate began the new 97th General Assembly on Wednesday, January 12th after an interesting and busy end to the last General Assembly that resulted in a hike in both the personal and corporate income taxes. Perfunctory session is scheduled for several days yet in January but, the members are not scheduled to come back to Springfield until February 1st and 2nd. The perfunctory days will allow for bills to be introduced on 1st reading in both chambers. The deadlines for introduction of substantive bills are currently set for February 10th in the Senate and February 24th in the House. Bills will begin to be heard in committees upon retu of the members. Session days are scheduled in each week during the month of February.
